My name is Lydie Ivy and I am your child’s new French Immersion Kindergarten teacher.
I was born and grew up in the beautiful countryside of southwestern France. I spent four years of my life in Paris, as a student at the Université de Jussieu. I obtained the Licence de Lettres et Civilisation Etrangères en Anglais (equivalent to a BA with an English major). It was also during this period of my life that I decided I did not like big cities.
Soon afterward, I moved to the United States and married my American husband. Over the years, our family has expanded and includes three adult / teen children, two (very soon!) daughters-in-law, and our first grand-child!
I have been teaching for the last 21 years, but most of my experience has been in Kindergarten. It has become my favorite grade level! Kindergarten in an immersion setting is the only place where you can witness a total miracle: children come through our door understanding, let alone speaking, NO French… and by the end of the school year, they are responding, speaking in short sentences, writing and reading in French. And year after year, I am amazed at this transformation!
Being able to teach at South Academy of International Languages is truly a wonderful experience! I am looking forward to getting to know your child and offering him /her the gift of another language. I believe that this coming year will be a true success of learning achievement as long as we teachers, parents and children are continually working towards the same goals.
Learning a foreign language is undoubtedly difficult for most adults, however, you will soon find out that your child is making rapid progress. The learning process will even be speedier as you ask him or her to teach you.
Encouragements, praises and heightened interest are the strongest forms of motivation for a child. Together we can transform your child’s first year of school into a very positive learning experience.
I am looking forward to meeting you and working with your child!
